this is a cool site. below is one of the posts from bittbox. i identify with almost all of these!

25 Reasons You Might Be A Hardcore Graphic/Web Designer
(In no particular order)

1. You’ve almost rear-ended the car in front of you because you were analyzing a font on a billboard.

2. You get pissed when a free Photoshop brush you download is less than 1000px in size.

3. You’d rather study the paisley pattern on your boyfriend/girlfriend’s shirt than listen to what he/she has to say.

4. You can use keyboard shortcuts at light speed, blindfolded, but you can’t type a paragraph of text without staring at the keyboard.

5. You’ve had “Software Nightmares,” when you’ve been working way too much.

6. You consider meals interruptions.

7. You’ve learned your lesson and stopped using the word “final” in any file name when saving.

8. You clean your keyboard more often than you wash your car.

9. You’ve intentionally given up trying to explain your projects to non-designers.

10. You see CMYK and RGB like Neo sees the Matrix.

11. You’d rather organize your desktop than your sock drawer.

12. When you heard that Adobe was acquiring Macromedia, you had a Design Orgasm.

13. When you look at Album art all you see are grunge Photoshop Brushes. (Then you see the album art a couple minutes later)

14. You’ve Photoshopped out a watermark for a comp or mock-up.

15. You’ve actually $paid for a font.

16. You’ve totally slaughtered a great design concept because the client thinks he/she knows best. (everyone thinks they are a designer)

17. The amount of words you’ve written with a sharpie labeling burned discs total more than the amount of words you’ve read in novels.

18. You’ve had to explain to a client that a layered file wasn’t part of the deal.

19. You’ve kept a ragged concert ticket just so you could scan it.

20. You’ve nicknamed the OSX spinning wheel. (and not affectionately)

21. You bookmark a resource more often than you have a fun night out on the town.

22. You’ve intentionally overbid a project because you can sniff out a bad client from a mile away.

23. You can’t go to a restaurant without secretly critiquing the menu design.

24. You have an amazingly huge font collection, and an amazingly short temper.

25. If you had a penny for every mouse click, you would have been a trillionaire 3 years ago.

survey

ok. here are the questions:

1. What comes to mind when you hear this: "The Treasure Quest: Living a Pirate's Dream"
2. How much is too much to pay for a T-shirt promoting a church event?
3. What qualities would you want in that T-shirt.
4. Of those qualities, choose your top three "deal makers." In other words, what top qualities on your list would make you want to pay money for the T-shirt?
5. How old are you? (because I'd like to know the age range of the survey group)

and lastly

6. Would you be willing to get your friends to respond on this too and get back to me with their responses?

even if the answer to that last question is "no" I'd still love to get your responses. so? what say you?

i'm waiting in anxious anticipation. i'm biting my nails.

crapola

wanna make something sound stupid? Just go to this website. type in some text and choose "valley girl" as your translation.....

examples of "it's pretty funny":
in valley girl: "it's pretty funny. Oh my God!"
in boston accent: "it's pretty funny, Jamal!"
in canadian: "it's preddy funny!"
in pig latin: "ityay's ettypray unnyfay!"
in smurf: "it's smurfy smurfy!"

it's even more fun to type in a website instead. try a news website - or better yet, try your own blog!

almond roca

a couple posts ago I mentioned how I loved my dogs. it's true. I really do. but I don't love that they love kitty almond roca! i.e. poop that's been carefully buried by it's owner in the litter box. it's not meant to be touched after that; especially by a dog's mouth! Yeuukkk!

making fun

spies
so I recently suedo-admonished a friend of mine for not being able to take a joke. for taking things too seriously and getting annoyed by the very fun, yet very nerdy prank me and some other nerds (who will remain nameless) pulled at his expense. after having said that some of you now know what I'm talking about. for those of you who don't, unfortunately you will have to remain in the dark unless the poor soul whom we pranked decides to share it with you....

so back to the reason for this post. i got to thinking about my suedo-admonishment towards my friend and wondered "really how i would feel if i had been pranked in the same way?" of course, i immediately respond to myself by saying "i would totally just get over it, laugh about it, and in general be a good sport." myself spoke yet again and countered by saying "well then how would you prove that? how do you know how you would respond in the same situation?" i didn't have such a quick response after that and i do believe that there is really no way to predict, how i would respond in the same situation however, i did come up with a good way to test whether i'm a good sport or not when it comes to poking fun at myself........and THAT my friends is what follows below!

spies
that's right! i was 15 and wanted to be a model, so what does every 15 year old girl do when they want to start putting a portfolio together? get Glamour Shots done! of course!

Oh, but that's not all.... because you know that this is really great black-mail material and even if i were to stop here, it would certainly be enough but nooooo! to prove that i'm a good sport about it, I'm gonna give you more!

spies
now you've seen the green & gold outfit....how about the white and black outfits?

spies
spies
are you still alive? can you handle more? ok, this is about it.....this is the last of all I have....

spies
ok! now it's your turn! let me have it!

actually what would be really fun is if you guys all downloaded the pics, drew on my face too, then posted them in your comments! i'd love to see all your beautiful artwork on my face............go!

office space

office
"damn, it feels good to be a gansta!"
Joanna: So, where do you work, Peter?
Peter Gibbons: Initech.
Joanna: In... yeah, what do you do there?
Peter Gibbons: I sit in a cubicle and I update bank software for the 2000 switch.
Joanna: What's that?
Peter Gibbons: Well see, they wrote all this bank software, and, uh, to save space, they used two digits instead of four.
So, like 98 instead of 1998? Uh... so I go through these thousands of lines of code and, uh... it doesn't really matter. I uh... I don't like my job, and, uh... I don't think I'm gonna go anymore.
Joanna: You're just not gonna go?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah.
Joanna: Won't you get fired?
Peter Gibbons: I don't know, but I really don't like it, and, uh, I'm not gonna go.
Joanna: So you're gonna quit?
Peter Gibbons: Nah-uh. Not really. Uh... I'm just gonna stop going.
Joanna: When did you decide all that?
Peter Gibbons: About an hour ago.
Joanna: An hour ago... so you're gonna get another job?
Peter Gibbons: I don't think I'd like another job.
Joanna: Well, what are you going to do about money and bills and...
Peter Gibbons: You know... I've never really liked paying bills. I don't think I'm gonna do that, either.

ok allan here's my office space. and I'm sporting my "i-hate-posing-for-pictures-and-I'm-trying-really-hard-not-to-look-dorky" face. :)

addicted

you know you're addicted to photoshop when...

You Know You're Addicted to Photoshop When...

You see the world with one eye and stock images with the other.

When asked what the primary colors are, answer "RGB"

You get the urge to 'fix' poor quality images.

You start teaching your significant other to use this "evil" program and in the space of one afternoon convince them it's at least only quasi-evil in the face of PSP.

You ramble about a breakthrough in the piece you're doing to people who have no idea in hell what you're talking about

You ponder the meaning of existence without layers.

You never leave the house without a digicam and notepad.

You drop something and your brain tells you automatically "Ctrl-Z! Ctrl-Z!". When you realize it won't work, your brain tells you "Ctrl-Alt-Z! Ctrl-Alt-Z!"

You're getting dressed for something important and you look in the mirror and realize you would look so much better if you could just tweak the levels a little and apply a slight gaussian blur.

You stop on the street to rant about cheesey effects that should not be on professional posters.

You scream out fonts as they appear on TV.

You have dreams in "glowing edges"

You're standing by the ocean and wondering who used Ocean Ripple.

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends who are addicted to Photoshop.

music

free
yes, i'm a hopeless romantic. and yes, i'll admitt, i do own this album. this might be surprising to some of you, but for those of you who know me well, you know me as a "radio slut." or at least that's what my husband calls me.

a "radio slut" as defined by my husband is someone who "only listens to the crap that the radio plays." in response to this i call him a "music snob." A "music snob" as defined by me is someone who has a very limited idea of what "good" music is.

there are many avenues to finding good music. the radio just happens to be one of my avenues. i will not deny that my husband has good taste in music, but i do deny the idea that you can't find good music through the radio.

case and point: The Beatles...........i rest my case.

so, needless to say, due to being called a "radio slut" many songs i like have been put on my music list of "guilty pleasures." celine dion is one of them. at least this song, on this album.

background: i heard this song for the first time in highschool. i think it came out either my junior or senior year. i fell in love with it immediately. this was when i encountered my first "music snob." it was my high school American Sign Language teacher.

i was an "A" student up until my final signing project where i had to stand up in front of the entire class and sign continuously for 3-5 minutes. i was, what you call, "the teacher's pet." however, i managed to tarnish that role due to my choice in music.

ya, you guessed it, i signed this song.......and to my shagrin, so did 5 or more other young, giddy, romantical, highschool girls in the class. i'm sure more than my song choice went into determining my final grade on that project; however, i knew i had chosen the wrong song when i got a great big sigh and subsequent, eyes to the ground, slow, disappointed head shake from my teacher upon my announcement of the song I would be signing. i think he had high hopes that i would go on and become some great interpreter (which was my career goal at the time) and he could forever see himself as the one that contributed to my "interpreter greatness." all his hopes were unfortunately dashed to the ground and destroyed the minute i chose the "in" pop song at the time. oh the potential..... :)

when i think back to that moment, i see myself signing like pedro in napoleon dynamite............ya, like a dork.

you think i'd have learned and immediately ceased liking the song but no. today i still like it and here it is, lyrics and all.

And in your eyes I see ribbons of color
I see us inside of each other
I feel my unconscious merge with yours
And I hear a voice say, "What's his is hers"

I'm falling into you
This dream could come true
And it feels so good falling into you

I was afraid to let you in here
Now I have learned love can't be made in fear
The walls begin to tumble down
And I can't even see the ground

I'm falling into you
This dream could come true
And it feels so good falling into you

Falling like a leaf, falling like a star
Finding a belief, falling where you are

Catch me, don't let me drop!
Love me, don't ever stop!

So close your eyes and let me kiss you
And while you sleep I will miss you

I'm falling into you
This dream could come true
And it feels so good falling into you

Falling like a leaf, falling like a star
Finding a belief, falling where you are

Falling into you

don't worry, there'll be more postings in the future from my "guilty pleasure" music list but i don't want to overwhelm you all right now so i'll give you a breather.

so, are you a "music snob" or a "radio slut" and if you're a "radio slut" (like me apparently) what are some from your music "guilty pleasures" list? i know i'm not the only one....don't even try and deny it.

interview game

Here are the official rules of the interview game:

1. If you want to participate, leave a comment below saying "interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five questions - each person's will be different.
3. You will update your journal/blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview others in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
6. I will answer reasonable follow up questions if you leave a comment.

Here are my answers; I put them in quotes. Enjoy!

1) Do you have any siblings? If so, how many? If zero, did you like growing up as an only child?
Yes! In fact, I have 5 siblings! I am the second oldest. Here's the excel version breakdown:

First Batch:
Tracy - Older sister, 27
Me - 25
Joelle - Younger sister, 23

Second Batch:
Michael - Younger brother, 16...or 17 now? I'm terrible...
Janice - Youngest sister, 14
Tony - Youngest brother, 12

No, I don't think I'd like to have grown up as an only child......no one to pick on?? no, couldn't have that.

2) Excuse my ignorance, but what is yurting?
Oh oh! Yurting is the best!! Basically, a Yurt is a special tent that is up year round. It has bunk bends, a heater, table & chairs, and a mirror....everything you'd possibly need except for a bathroom. You have to walk to get to the bathroom. (that sucks when you have to do it in the middle of the night and it's raining) But it's so much fun! Yurts allow you to camp in the winter...here's where you can read up on yurting!

3) Your Blogger profile indicates that you are a very busy person! How do you balance everything?
...ya....balance? not really....I don't have much of that in my life. I wish!! I'll get sappy for a minute and say I would be pulling my hair out if it weren't for my hubby....but really, ya, I guess I do have at least some balance....

bottom line: I think it all comes down to making sure I don't forget to take time for myself in the mix of it all. And not just making time for myself but genuinly(sp) enjoying that time and not feeling guilty about it.

I easily feel guilty about things....

4) Mustard or mayonnaise?
depends on what it's on...hotdog: mustard, sandwich: mayonnaise. I don't usually like mustard and mayonnaise together on anything...

5) You seem to have a love for music and the arts. What art form moves you the most?
Let's see, this is a tough one. You are right. I do have a love for music and the arts in general. What moves me the most? I think that'd have to be music. Music really can take you instantly to other worlds, just like that. I really adore music.....it's my drug. Sometimes music can just get right where you are at that moment when you need it.....ya, I'm addicted; an intervention may be in order....

funny

BibleI found this from another blog that I've been checking and reading for about a week now....it's great!
